A high‐resolution submersible oxygen optode system for aquatic eddy covariance

چکیده
The aquatic eddy covariance technique is increasingly used to determine oxygen (O2) fluxes over benthic ecosystems. uses O2 measuring systems that have a high temporal and numerical resolution. In this study, we performed series of lab field tests assess new optical submersible meter designed for measurements equipped with an existing ultra-high speed fiber sensor. has 16-bit digital-to-analog-signal conversion produces 0–5 V output at rate up 40 Hz. device was paired acoustic Doppler velocimeter. combined fiber-optic sensor's response time significantly faster in O2-undersaturated water compared O2-supersaturated (0.087 vs. 0.12 s), but still sufficiently fast measurements. optode signal not sensitive variations flow or light exposure. However, the affected by direction flow. When sensor tip exposed from back rather than front, increased 37%. meter's internal processing determined be ~ 0.05 s, delay can corrected during postprocessing. order built-in temperature correction accurate, should always submerged multiple 21–47 h tests, system recorded consistently high-quality, low-noise flux data. Overall, powerful option collecting robust

Stream oxygen flux and metabolism determined with the open water and aquatic eddy covariance techniques
We quantified oxygen flux in a coastal stream in Virginia using a novel combination of the conventional open water technique and the aquatic eddy covariance technique. The latter has a smaller footprint (sediment surface area that contributes to the flux; 10 m), allowing measurements to be made at multiple sites within the footprint of the open water technique ( 1000 m). Sites included an unveg...

متن کاملDetermining the Oxygen Isotope Composition of Evapotranspiration Using Eddy Covariance
The oxygen isotope composition of evapotranspiration (δF ) represents an important tracer in the study of biosphere–atmosphere interactions, hydrology, paleoclimate, and carbon cycling. Here, we demonstrate direct measurement of δF based on the eddy-covariance and tunable diode laser spectroscopy (EC-TDL) techniques. Results are presented from laboratory experiments and field measurements in ag...

متن کاملLUMOS - A Sensitive and Reliable Optode System for Measuring Dissolved Oxygen in the Nanomolar Range
Most commercially available optical oxygen sensors target the measuring range of 300 to 2 μmol L-1. However these are not suitable for investigating the nanomolar range which is relevant for many important environmental situations. We therefore developed a miniaturized phase fluorimeter based measurement system called the LUMOS (Luminescence Measuring Oxygen Sensor). It consists of a readout de...
